When children are abused or neglected, they have a very low chance of long-term success. Often times, these children have issues with truancy and do not attend school on a regular basis. In some cases, abused and neglected children are never even enrolled in school (Vardigan, 2018). They lack basic skills such as knowing how to clean, how to be responsible for basic chores, and they do not understand the importance of following basic instructions. How could they? Education is perhaps the most crucial component of being successful. If you hope for more than a basic blue-collar job, then you are going to need at least a high school education. Beyond that, you are typically going to need at least some form of postsecondary education. By educational attainment: 35 percent of the job openings will require at least a bachelors degree, 30 percent of the job openings will require some college or an associates degree and 36 percent of the job openings will not require education beyond high school, (Recovery: Job Growth and Education Requirements Through 2020). That adds up to sixty-five percent of jobs requiring more than a high school education and one hundred percent of jobs that require a high school education. To most people, graduating high school is something that is just expected to happen. It is as common as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. The foster care system gives these children a chance to not only graduate from high school but to continue into postsecondary education. We support our children after they graduate and age-out. They can go to college or trade school, and we ensure that the economic costs are met as long as they make the grades we even have a doctor who was raised at the (Boys) Ranch, (L.
